Description

This Philly Cheesesteak Dip is a deliciously creamy and cheesy appetizer inspired by the classic Philly cheesesteak sandwich. It features tender chopped roast beef, sautéed onions and green bell peppers, blended with cream cheese, sour cream, mozzarella, and provolone cheeses, baked until hot and bubbly. Perfect for parties or game day, this dip is best served warm with sliced baguette, tortilla chips, crackers, or fresh veggies.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat and Vegetables

  • 1 lb roast beef deli meat (sliced and chopped into ¼ inch pieces)
  • 1 medium onion (diced)
  • 1 large green bell pepper (chopped)

Dairy and Cheese

  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 8 ounces cream cheese (1 brick, 250 grams, room temperature)
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese (shredded)
  • 8 slices provolone cheese (chopped into ¼ inch pieces, or 1 cup shredded mozzarella or Swiss cheese)

Seasonings and Garnish

  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper (or to taste)
  • Fresh parsley (finely chopped, for garnish)
  • Green onion (sliced, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375℉ (190℃). Grease an oven-safe baking dish or skillet with cooking spray and set aside to prepare for baking the dip.
  2. Sauté the Vegetables: Melt 1 tablespoon of butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion and cook for 4-5 minutes until it becomes lightly caramelized. Then add the chopped green bell pepper and continue cooking for another 2-3 minutes until the peppers are tender, stirring occasionally to avoid burning.
  3. Mix the Cheese Base: While the vegetables are cooking, in a medium-sized bowl combine the softened cream cheese, sour cream, shredded mozzarella, and chopped provolone cheese. Stir until the mixture is evenly blended and creamy.
  4. Add Meat and Seasonings: To the cheese mixture, add the chopped roast beef, cooked onions and peppers, salt, and black pepper. Mix everything together thoroughly to ensure an even distribution of flavors. Optionally, you can reserve about 1 tablespoon of the roast beef and cooked vegetables for garnish.
  5. Assemble the Dip: Spread the prepared dip evenly into the greased baking dish or skillet. Optionally, sprinkle the reserved roast beef and cooked vegetables on top for an attractive garnish.
  6. Bake the Dip: Cover the baking dish with foil and bake in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes until the dip is heated through and bubbly. Remove the foil and bake uncovered for an additional 2-3 minutes to lightly brown the top.
  7. Garnish and Serve: Remove the dip from the oven, garnish with finely chopped fresh parsley and sliced green onions. Serve immediately while warm with sliced baguette, tortilla chips, crackers, or fresh veggies for dipping and enjoy!

Notes

  • Using cream cheese at room temperature ensures a smooth, creamy dip without lumps.
  • You can substitute provolone cheese with mozzarella or Swiss cheese if preferred.
  • For best flavor, use freshly chopped roast beef from the deli rather than pre-packaged slices.
  • This dip is best served warm; reheat gently if needed.
  • Serve with a variety of dippers like baguette slices, crackers, tortilla chips, or fresh vegetables for a crowd-pleasing appetizer.
