Description

This Delicious Angel Beef Casserole is a hearty and comforting dish featuring browned ground beef mixed with a creamy mushroom and Italian dressing sauce, topped with crispy golden tater tots. Perfectly baked until bubbly and golden, this casserole serves as a satisfying meal for the whole family.

Ingredients

Scale

Beef Mixture

  • 2 lbs lean ground beef
  • 1 packet (1 oz) Italian dressing mix
  • 1/2 cup beef broth

Creamy Sauce

  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • 8 oz softened cream cheese
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted

Topping

  • 7 cups frozen tater tots

Instructions

  1. Preheating the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC) to have it ready for baking the casserole.
  2. Browning the Beef: In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef. Break it apart and cook thoroughly until browned. Drain any excess grease from the skillet.
  3. Preparing the Creamy Sauce: In a bowl, combine the Italian dressing mix, cream of mushroom soup, beef broth, melted butter, and softened cream cheese. Stir until the mixture is smooth and fully blended.
  4. Assembling the Casserole: Transfer the browned beef into a greased baking pan. Pour the creamy sauce over the meat and gently mix to coat everything evenly.
  5. Adding Tater Tots as a Topping: Evenly spread the frozen tater tots over the top of the beef and sauce mixture so they completely cover the surface.
  6. Baking and Serving: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 40 to 45 minutes, or until the tater tots are crispy and golden brown. Allow the casserole to cool for a couple of minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Ensure the tater tots are evenly spread on top for uniform crispiness.
  • Use lean ground beef to cut down on excess grease and fat.
  • Let the casserole rest a few minutes after baking for easier serving.
  • This casserole can be prepared ahead and refrigerated before baking.
  • Substitute cream of mushroom soup with cream of celery or chicken if desired.
