Scale
Croissant Base
- 6 pieces day-old croissants, torn into bite-sized pieces
Custard Mix
- 4 large eggs
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- ยฝ cup brown sugar
Optional Mix-ins
- 1 cup fresh berries or chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your oven to 350ยฐF (175ยฐC) and grease your baking dish to prevent sticking. Tear the day-old croissants into bite-sized pieces for layering.
- Layer Croissants: Spread the torn croissant pieces evenly in the greased baking dish. If you like, sprinkle in fresh berries or chocolate chips as optional mix-ins to add a burst of flavor.
- Make Custard: In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and brown sugar until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
- Soak Croissants: Pour the custard evenly over the croissant pieces, allowing them to soak up the mixture for about 10 minutes. This step ensures the bake will be rich and custardy.
- Bake: Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the custard has puffed up and set.
Notes
- For best results, use day-old croissants as they absorb the custard better without becoming too soggy.
- Feel free to substitute whole milk with any milk of your choice, such as almond or oat milk for a dairy-free version.
- Add nuts or a drizzle of maple syrup on top before baking for extra texture and sweetness.
- Allow the bake to cool for a few minutes before serving; it firms up slightly and is easier to cut.
