Ingredients
Scale
Meat and Vegetables
- 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
- 1 small onion, chopped (or 1 1/2 teaspoons onion powder)
- 1 clove garlic, minced (or 1 teaspoon garlic powder)
Liquids and Sauces
- 3 cups water or beef broth
- 1 (.87 to 1.0-ounce) packet brown gravy mix
- 1 (10.5-ounce) can condensed cheddar cheese soup
Pasta and Cheese
- 2 cups uncooked macaroni
- 2 cups shredded mild cheddar cheese
Instructions
- Brown the beef and onions: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and chopped onions together until the meat is fully browned. Drain off any excess grease, then return the skillet with the beef mixture back to the stove.
- Sauté the garlic: Add the minced garlic to the skillet and sauté for 1 to 2 minutes until fragrant, being careful not to burn it. If using garlic powder instead of fresh, add it later with other seasonings.
- Add sauces and liquids: Stir in the brown gravy mix, condensed cheddar cheese soup, and water or beef broth. Mix well until all the ingredients are combined into a smooth sauce. If you opted for onion and garlic powder instead of fresh, add those to the skillet now.
- Cook the pasta: Add the dry macaroni to the skillet, stirring to coat it in the sauce. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat to a simmer and cover the skillet. Allow it to cook for 10 to 12 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking, until the pasta is tender but still slightly firm (al dente).
- Finish with cheese: Remove the skillet from heat and stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until melted and fully incorporated. Serve the cheesy hamburger skillet hot for a comforting and satisfying meal.
Notes
- Using beef broth instead of water will enhance the overall flavor of the dish.
- For a lighter version, you can substitute ground turkey or chicken for the beef.
- If you prefer extra cheesy, sprinkle additional cheddar cheese on top before serving.
- Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated on the stovetop or microwave.
- Adding a side of steamed vegetables or a green salad will complement this hearty meal well.
